Tarot
What is Tarot? Psychics have one answer, but some European card players have a completely different answer. The answer depends on who you ask. In some parts of Europe, Tarot (also know as Tarocchi in Italy and Tarock in Austria) is a card game played with a set of cards that have a “fool” card, 21 trump cards and an extra set of face cards called the “knight.” The face cards and their priority are Jack, Knight, Queen and King.
However, in the U.S. and some other western countries, the Tarot is known as a set of cards that psychics use to read the future or other important aspects for a person. When a psychic uses Tarot cards, they usually put them in a pattern known as the Spread, and the position of the cards as well as the value of the cards themselves help the psychic to read about the events, relationships or other issues facing a person.
Tarot Cards
The Tarot cards that psychics use are different from those that the typical Tarot card game player use. Tarot cards that psychics use have specialized artwork that represent mysticism and the occult. The trump and fool cards are called the 22 Major Arcana cards. The rest of the cards, including the four face cards and pip cards are called the Minor Arcana cards. The artwork on the Tarot cards used by psychics varies greatly today, but many share in common some of the designs created originally by the early card decks especially those used in France, and much later by the Rider (or Rider-Waite) deck created by Arthur Edward Waite and artist Pamela Coleman Smith in 1910, and printed by the Rider Company.
Tarot Card Reading
To conduct a Tarot card reading, the psychic will ask the person who wants the reading to shuffle the deck. The shuffled cards are then drawn and put onto the table in a Spread. A Spread is a specific pattern of cards which are then read one at a time, in order, by the psychic. There are various Tarot spreads, and some of the most common are the Celtic Cross, the Astrological Spread, the 3-Card spread and the Horseshoe. Sometimes a psychic will use a card to represent the person that is asking for the reading. This representative card is called the Significator and will be used to represent the question being asked, or the person who has requested the reading. Usually a specific aspect of a person’s life is questioned, such as a relationship, an important future decision or other important questions about a person’s future. The psychic will read the cards and interpret their meaning to help the person answer their question. Many people become interested in free tarot readings and from them eventually find a Tarot card reader they use over and over again.
